India defeated Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 final, but the events after the match grabbed more attention than the game itself.

India beat Pakistan in a thriller, winning by 5 wickets as Tilak Varma's half-century led the team in the chase. Rinku Singh hit the winning runs off Haris Rauf to cap off the Men in Blue's ninth Asia Cup title.

However, in the post-match trophy presentation, the winning team did not take the trophy, essentially boycotting Mohsin Naqvi at the event.

Interestingly, Naqvi, who is the ACC chairman but also holds the position of PCB chief and Pakistan's interior minister, reportedly ended up leaving the presentation with the trophy.

India did not take the stage to receive the winner's medals and celebrated the winning moment without a trophy.

This strange moment has left fans asking whether India will get their trophy and medals, and if Naqvi was even allowed to take them away.

Was Mohsin Naqvi allowed to take the Asia Cup 2025 trophy away?

The incident happened when India’s players refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi, a senior Pakistani leader.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia strongly condemned the act, saying: “We have decided not to take the trophy from the ACC chairman (Naqvi)… But that does not mean that the gentleman will take away the trophy.”

Saikia described Naqvi’s action as “unsporting” and said the matter will be discussed at the International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting scheduled for November.

“In the next ICC conference in Dubai in the first week of November, we are going to lodge a very serious and very strong protest against the act of ACC chairperson," Saikia added.

Saikia made it clear that both the medals and the trophy are part of the champions’ rights, and everything must be handed to India.

He added: “It is very unfortunate, very unsporting and we hope that the trophy and the medals will be returned to India as soon as possible.”

From the Indian board’s point of view, the trophy rightfully belongs to the champions, and walking away with it does not change that fact.

Will India get the Asia Cup 2025 trophy and medals back?

Despite the controversy, there is no doubt that India will eventually receive the Asia Cup trophy and their medals. Saikia confirmed that the BCCI will file a strong protest at the ICC’s Dubai meeting and make sure the matter is resolved.

Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha, meanwhile, took a swipe at India, saying, “If he (Mohsin Naqvi) is the ACC president, then he will only give the trophy. If you don’t want to take it from him, how will you get a trophy?”

But in reality, the ACC cannot hold back the title or the trophy from the winning side. The silverware belongs to India, and it is only a matter of time before it is handed over.
