While many Indian fans and pundits backed the team's decisions due to cross-border tensions between the nations, other cricket fans were less than thrilled. They called the gesture unsportsmanlike.

Adding fuel to the fire ahead of India's white-ball tour of Australia, Aussie cricketers to mock the India-Pakistan handshake controversy during a series promo. However, the video was later deleted following fans' backlash.

Here's what happened.

Aussie cricketers poke fun at India vs Pakistan handshake controversy

A few Australian Men's and Women's players took part in a promo video for Kayo Sports hosted by The Grade Cricketer, where they were asked an alternative way to shake hands with the Indians. While the video was sarcastic, it also mocked India's actions on the field in Dubai.

The video featured famous Aussie Men's stars, including Glenn Maxwell, Josh Hazlewood and Jake Fraser-McGurk, alongside women cricketers such as Sophie Molineux and Alyssa Healy.

"We all know India is on its way. But we've identified one critical weakness. We know that they're not huge fans of the traditional greeting (handshake), so we can throw them off before we've even bowled a ball," the host said.

However, due to backlash from Indian fans on the internet, Kayo Sports quickly removed the video to avoid any further trouble ahead of India's tour.

India will start their tour of the three-match ODI series in Perth on October 19. The three ODIs will be followed by five T20Is from October 29 to November 8.

The series will notably see the international returns of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma for the first time since the ICC Champions Trophy in March.
