India's U19 prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi found himself in the spotlight on Day 1 of the second Youth Test against Australia. But not for the reasons he would have liked.
The 14-year-old batter showed rare signs of frustration after a contentious umpiring decision saw him dismissed early in his innings. His brief protest has since become a major talking point, revealing a glimpse of the fiery competitive edge behind the usually calm teenager.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi's controversial dismissal against Australia U19
Batting at a strike rate of 142, Vaibhav had scored 20 off 14 balls. He smashed two boundaries and a six before his wicket.
Facing a delivery that angled across him from Charles Lachmund, Suryavanshi was ruled caught behind. The Australian fielders appealed instantly, and the umpire wasted no time raising his finger.
Vaibhav appeared stunned, gesturing toward his thigh pad as if to signal there was no edge. He lingered for a few seconds before walking off, swinging his bat in frustration - a rare show of emotion from a player widely admired for his poise.

Replays later suggested that the ball had missed the bat completely and brushed his pads before being caught by the keeper, validating his reaction. Suryavanshi's visible disappointment drew attention not only for the disputed decision but also because it contrasted with his usual calmness.
The young batter has often been praised for his maturity beyond his age, and his reaction served as a reminder of the immense pressure that even junior cricketers face under the spotlight.
