Suryakumar Yadav did not want Shubman Gill in India's Asia Cup 2025 squad - Report

The Indian team is currently touring Australia for a eight-game white-ball series and the ODI series is currently in action.

Amid the ODI series, the Indian team has been rocked with a fresh controversy as CricBlogger (via Crictracker) reports that Yadav reportedly did not want to include Gill in the T20I squad for the Asia Cup 2025.

The report adds that SKY felt that Gill's orthodox batting style did not fit into the current T20 squad, who are known for their aggressive outlook towards matches. However, Gill had the backing of head coach Gautam Gambhir and the BCCI selectors, who felt it was important to incorporate the top-order batter into the team, which would benefit the Men in Blue in the long-term in terms of fulfilling their all-format goals.

They also cited Gill's consistent performance for Gujarat Titans in the last few editions of the Indian Premier League. SKY was reportedly informed about the management's decision hours before the squad was announced in September for the Asia Cup.
