The last time these two teams met in the Ashes was in 2023, when Alex Carey inflicted the famous Jonny Bairstow run-out at Lord's. That incident left the England camp fuming, who complained about the lack of sportsmanship shown by the visitors.
The incident was followed by Stuart Broad's unpleasant sledge towards the Australian wicketkeeper, which was caught on the stump mic. The England fast bowling legend has now revealed that he wishes to apologise to Carey if he gets a chance to do so.
Stuart Broad reveals his regret about sledging Alex Carey during Ashes 2023
While previewing the upcoming Ashes Test series with Jos Buttler on the For The Love Of Cricket Podcast, the Broad recalled the run-out incident and his reaction upon watching the replays.
"I haven't spoken to Alex Carey about it. You know, for those that don't know, I came out to bat a little bit red mist and Alex Carey had come up to the stumps and I just said, 'Yeah, we're happy with that. That's all you're going to be remembered for, mate.' I forgot there was a stump mic and TV cameras for that period of time," he said.
"Honestly, I remember watching the replays of it, just cringing. Oh my goodness, that's so embarrassing. I do regret doing that. I just wonder if the Aussies have any regret in running best out like that," he added.
Citing Carey's consistency while batting in tough conditions, he lauded the wicketkeeper batter for doing well post the Ashes series tie.

"Fortunately, he's been pretty good since, you know, he scored runs. He struggled with the rest of that series. He didn't get going at all. But fortunately, he's got going because obviously he's not going to be remembered just for that," he added.
He further spoke about his willingness to apologise if he were to meet him and that he has heard great things about the Aussie wicketkeeper.
The former fast bowler also joked about ex-Aussie legends like Matthew Hayden and Steve Waugh, not apologising for their brutal sledging in the 90s.
He also believes that the current England captain, Ben Stokes, or the former skipper, Eoin Morgan, would have recalled the batter if they were run out in such a fashion, while defending Bairstow in the controversial run-out.
When is the first Test of the Ashes 2025/26 Test series?
The oldest cricket rivalry between Australia and England is set to resume on November 21 with the first Ashes Test at Optus Stadium in Perth. However, both English pace legends Broad and James Anderson will not be a part of the touring squad.
