Smriti Mandhana continues to script milestones on the biggest stage. In the 2025 Women's ODI World Cup semi-final against Australia, the Indian vice-captain reached another historic landmark — becoming only the second Indian batter to score 1000 ODI runs against the reigning world champions.

While the semi-final carried enormous stakes, Mandhana's personal achievement added another layer of significance to a memorable contest.

Mandhana reached the 1000-run mark against Australia after a steady start while opening the innings alongside Shafali Verma. With this, she joined Mithali Raj — India's all-time leading run-scorer against Australia, who finished her career with 1123 runs, in an elite club.

The milestone further adds Mandhana's status as one of India's most dependable ODI performers. She has now played 116 ODIs, scoring 5277 runs at an average of 48.41, including 14 centuries and 34 fifties.

Consistent World Cup run continues for Smriti Mandhana

The left-hander has been India's standout performer in this World Cup, scoring 389 runs in eight innings, including a century and two half-centuries. In their earlier group-stage clash against Australia, she had already made a mark with a gritty 80-run knock.

In the semi-final against India, Australia scored a massive 338 runs, the highest-ever total in Women's World Cup knockout history. For India, Deepti Sharma and Nallapureddy Charani picked up two wickets each, but the hosts face a daunting chase as they look to book a place in the final.
