The pressure was already high on Shubman Gill when he was named India’s Test captain after the retirement of Rohit Sharma. Leading in English conditions for the first time is never easy, especially for a young skipper.

But Gill shoulder the leadership responsibilities and also let his bat do the talking as he broke one of the most prestigious Test records held by an Asian player in England.

On Day 4 of the fourth Test at Old Trafford, Gill crossed the 650-run mark in the series, making him the highest run-scorer by any Asian batter in a single Test series in England.

This massive achievement came amidst a tough match situation, and made cricket fans sit up and take notice once again.

What record did Shubman Gill break on Day 4 in Manchester?

During India’s second innings in the fourth Test, Gill needed just 13 runs to surpass Mohammad Yousuf’s tally of 631 runs, set back in 2006.

Batting under pressure after India lost two wickets in the very first over, Gill stepped in and steadied the innings with a calm and composed partnership alongside KL Rahul.
