Shubman Gill stepped into a new role in his career during the India Test tour of England in 2025. For years, people saw him as the next big star for India, and now he's the captain of the Indian Test team.

He led India to a stunning comeback to level the series 2-2. Even more impressive, the Indians were without both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who stepped away from Test cricket.

It’s Gill’s turn to continue shaping the future of Indian cricket.

Has Shubman Gill captained in ODIs?

Gill hasn’t officially captained India in ODIs yet. So far, the ODI leadership role at the senior level remains uncharted territory for him, but it may not be far off.

Has Shubman Gill captained in Tests?

Gill took over the captaincy from Rohit Sharma in the away India vs. England series. After four Tests, India have leveled the series 2-2 with only their third-ever win at the Oval in the fifth Test - a fitting end to the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

Despite dominating most sessions in the four Tests, India failed to win the match-deciding phases as they crumbled under pressure.

The young man also won his first Test as captain at home, as India registered a dominating victory against the West Indies by an innings and 140 runs.
