As per reports, the Mumbai batter is on track for an all-format return as he is likely to be picked up for the Asia Cup 2025 and India's home Test series against the West Indies.
Shreyas Iyer to return to India's T20I squad for Asia Cup
The Indian middle-order batter Iyer has had a fabulous run in the India Premier League 2025, leading the Punjab Kings to the Finals. The batter scored 604 runs in 17 innings at an average of more than 50.
The Mumbai batter has played 51 T20Is for India, scoring more than 1100 runs at an average of nearly 34.
He was also India's top run-getter in the Champions Trophy, which India went on to win. He scored 243 runs in 5 matches at an average of 48, which included some crucial knocks against Australia and New Zealand in the semi-finals and final, respectively.
Iyer is currently a part of the West Zone side for the Duleep Trophy, which is set to begin later this month. If the batter gets picked for the Asia Cup squad, he would most likely not feature in the domestic tournament.
According to a recent Times of India report, Iyer is all set for an all-format return.
"We need Iyer’s class and experience in the middle order in all formats. It's something that we missed in England during the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy. The selectors are aware that Iyer is an excellent player of spin bowling, which will be crucial in a home season that involves four Tests - two each against West Indies and South Africa," sources quoted to TOI.
When did Iyer last play a Test match for India?
Iyer last featured in a Test match for India in February 2024, when he played against England in the home series. A dip in the form of the batter and some issues with his back resulted in his exclusion from India's red-ball setup post that series.

Since his debut against New Zealand back in 2021, he has featured in 14 Tests, scoring 811 runs at an average of 36.86. The decision makers now feel that the batter has done everything right to come back to the side, ever since his exclusion from the central contracts, due to reluctance to play domestic cricket.
Iyer also enjoyed good outings for the Mumbai side in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season, scoring 480 runs in five matches at an average of 68, including two centuries.
