Kapil Dev weighs in on India-Pakistan debate
In an interview with News18, former India captain Kapil Dev chose not to take sides on the matter. Instead, he stressed that the decision lies with the government, not players or administrators.
"I do not know who is opposing it. The country makes the policy, and everything happens according to the policy. If the country wants the match to happen, then it should happen. If the country does not want it, then it should not," Kapil said.

Government rules on India-Pakistan matches
The Indian government had clarified last month that bilateral sporting ties with Pakistan remain off the table. However, both nations can face each other in multi-nation tournaments under the guidelines of international sporting bodies.
"With regard to international and multilateral events, in India or abroad, we are guided by the practices of international sports bodies and the interest of our own sportspersons," the government statement read.

That position means India will continue to participate in global competitions involving Pakistan while avoiding bilateral series. With the Asia Cup falling under the multinational category, the Dubai fixture is expected to go ahead despite the ongoing debate.
As things stand, the India-Pakistan clash remains one of the most highly anticipated contests of the Asia Cup - although the political backdrop ensures it will be about more than just cricket.
