'God's plan' - Shafali Verma hailed for all-round masterclass in Women's ODI World Cup final as youngster makes fairytale comeback to Indian team image

Destiny certainly has its own plans, and it definitely tends to favour people who are brave enough. It was just last week that India's young opener Shafali Verma was watching the Women's World Cup from her home. 

In what can only be described as a script written by god, Shafali has now delivered the performance of her life in one of the biggest games of her career - The Women's World Cup Final.

The young girl from Mumbai, who wasn't a part of India's original World Cup squad, came in as a replacement just before the semis and has now delivered a stunning all-around performance in the Finals against South Africa. 

"Shafali is coming home on the big day in a big way!" Said a user on X (Formerly Twitter)

Pratik Rawal was picked up in the Indian squad as the opening batter, while Shafali was dropped from the initial squad. She, however, found a way to the side after Rawal suffered an unfortunate injury while fielding in a league game against Bangladesh.

On the grandest stage of all, the young 22-year-old star from Mumbai grabbed the opportunity with both hands as she smashed a dominating 87-run against South Africa in the Finals of the World Cup.

Her innings helped India to a good total of 298 runs in their 50 overs. Additionally, the young star grabbed 2 crucial wickets, breaking through the South African middle-order.

Meanwhile, India and South Africa are in the quest for their first-ever world title and are battling it out to be crowned as the champions of the world at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
