Sunil Gavaskar backs Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma for 2027 ODI World Cup

Speaking to India Today after India's nine-wicket win in Sydney, Gavaskar said Rohit and Kohli's intent to travel for the series itself showed their hunger for the 2027 World Cup. He highlighted that their experience and ability make them automatic inclusions if they remain fit and available.

"The moment they made themselves available for this trip, it was clear they want to be there for the 2027 World Cup. And irrespective of what happens between now and then, whether they score runs or not, with the ability and experience they possess, if they are available, they will be certainties in the squad," Gavaskar said.

He added, "With this kind of rhythm, you can write their names straight into the World Cup squad for South Africa 2027."

Gavaskar's message to BCCI selectors

Gavaskar's view contrasts with recent chatter suggesting a gradual handover to younger players. Instead, he framed their inclusion as a matter of proven reliability, not sentiment.
