Sarfaraz Khan's push to reclaim his spot in the Indian Test side has been dealt a fresh blow. The 27-year-old batter - who has been out of the national squad since the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, was expected to use the ongoing domestic tournaments to make his case again.
But an untimely injury has forced him to the sidelines - disrupting his momentum at a crucial stage in his career.

Sarfaraz Khan ruled out of Duleep Trophy
According to The Times of India, Sarfaraz has been ruled out of the Duleep Trophy after picking up an injury that will keep him away from action for at least three weeks. He is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
The setback means Sarfaraz will miss West Zone's Duleep Trophy semi-final against Central Zone on September 4 as well as any potential final appearance should his team progress.

The news comes only days after Sarfaraz lit up the All India Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament with a counter-attacking 111 against Haryana. Walking in when Mumbai were in trouble at 84 for four, he turned the innings around with a 112-ball knock laced with nine boundaries and five sixes.
Earlier in the same event, he had scored 138 against TNCA XI. His recent hundred came with a six off his 99th ball.
India comeback hopes delayed
Sarfaraz - who debuted in Tests against England in February 2024, has not yet made his name in the national setup. He was overlooked for the current squad in England despite a hundred for India A on the same tour.
While he has worked hard on his fitness, reports suggest he shed over 17 kg in two months, but the latest injury will delay his comeback bid.
With selectors keeping a close eye on domestic performers, Sarfaraz's challenge will be to return quickly and maintain the form that has kept his name in contention.
