The India-Pakistan rivalry once again produced a moment of debate and dispute - this time over a catch taken by Sanju Samson in the Asia Cup 2025. Fakhar Zaman was given out in the third over after a review by the TV umpire.

The decision didn't sit well with the Pakistan camp and has now escalated into a formal complaint.

PCB lodges complaint with ICC over Fakhar Zaman's dismissal

According to Dunya News, the Pakistan Cricket Board has written to the International Cricket Council questioning TV umpire Ruchira Palliyaguruge's ruling. Fakhar was dismissed for 15 off 9 balls when Samson dived forward and took a low catch.

The third umpire reviewed two camera angles: one suggesting the ball had bounced before Samson's gloves and another appearing to show a clean take. Palliyaguruge went with the latter and declared Fakhar out.

The dismissal left Fakhar stunned and debate quickly spilled over on social media with fans and analysts divided on whether the catch had carried.

Pakistan voices frustration after controversial ruling

Speaking after the match, Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha admitted the team felt wronged but stopped short of directly accusing the umpire.

"Umpires can make mistakes. But it did look like it bounced ahead of the keeper to me. I might be wrong. The way Fakhar was batting, if he had batted through the powerplay, we would probably have scored 190. We felt the ball touched the ground, but the umpire's decision is final," Salman said.
