He kept the home crowd all riled up during the first session of play on Day 3 by mocking them with gestures referring to the infamous 'Sandpaper Gate' from 2018.

The incident happened in the first session of the third day of the Test when India got a couple of quick wickets in pursuit of defending the target, including that of Australia star Steve Smith.

Virat made a gesture toward the crowd, turned his pockets inside out and showed that he was not carrying any sandpaper, referring to the 2018 incident in Cape Town to get a reaction from them.

Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft were banned for using a sandpaper to take the shine off the red ball during the match.
