Salman Ali Agha removed as Pakistan T20I captain? Report links sacking to three losses vs India in Asia Cup 2025 image

Pakistan's preparations for the T20 World Cup 2026 are likely to face a setback following yet another potential change in captaincy.

This comes after Pakistan's recent Asia Cup final defeat to India, as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) looks to replace Salman Ali Agha as skipper. Under him, Pakistan won all their matches in Asia, barring the crucial three games against India.

In two of the three losses against the arch-rivals, India comfortably chased down 131 and 174 with seven and six wickets to spare. Here's more on the story.

Will Salman Ali Agha be sacked from Pakistan T20I captaincy?

According to PTI, the Pakistan T20I captaincy shake-up could take place well before the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.

All-rounder Shadab Khan, who is currently recovering from a shoulder injury, is the frontrunner to take over the duties as the captain once he is available for selection.

The decision could also put Salman Agha's spot in the playing XI in danger after scoring just 72 runs in 7 innings of the Asia Cup.

With the South Africa T20I series scheduled to begin on October 28 and Shadab Khan unlikely to be available to play the matches at home, it will be interesting to see whether Agha is given another series at the helm or they appoint a stand-in skipper.

Notably, Shadab has also led Islamabad United to a Pakistan Super League (PSL) title back in 2024, leading from the front with the bat.

What is Salman Agha's captaincy record in T20Is?

Since he was appointed a captain in 2024, Agha has captained Pakistan in 30 T20Is and won 17 matches, while losing 6.
