Pakistan’s T20I team for the Asia Cup 2025 looks very different this time, with big names like Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan not in the squad. Their absence got a lot of people talking, from fans to cricket experts
Former fast bowler Tanvir Ahmed has now weighed in and suggests that even if these stars aren’t playing, their presence in the stands could boost team morale and add energy to the game. That’s why they should be there.

Why Tanvir Ahmed believes Rizwan and Babar’s presence in the stands matters
Ahmed explained that many people misunderstand the role of a player who isn’t in the playing XI. He said that even if a player is not selected or isn’t playing in a tournament, they can still sit in the stands to support the team.
For players like Babar Azam or Mohammad Rizwan, taking the time to be present at the game is meaningful. Tanvir described this as a “big deal” because it brings energy to the match and shows the team that experienced players are backing them.
"I'm telling people that there's a misconception about someone being present at an event. Even if a player isn't selected for the team or isn't playing in the tournament, they might still go and sit in the stands. This is a great thing! If players like Babar or Rizwan, for instance, take the time to sit in the stands, it’s a big deal. Having Pakistan’s top batsman watching the match from the stands is a big thing," said Tanvir.
He also mentioned that this isn’t just unique to Pakistan. Players from India, Australia, and England often sit in the balcony or stands during series, whether at home or abroad.

The presence of a well-known player creates discussions among commentators and fans, highlights their legacy and inspires other players on the field.
"We've seen this with players from India, Australia, and England as well. During a series, whether in England or elsewhere, you’ll often spot players sitting in the balcony or stands. It’s not just about watching the match but also about supporting the team. It sparks discussions, like when commentators highlight a prominent player in the stands, noting their legacy. This creates a positive impact," he added.
What’s next for Pakistan ahead of IND vs PAK?
Pakistan now heads into the Super Fours stage with a refreshed squad. While Babar and Rizwan won’t be on the field, Tanvir believes their presence in the stands could help the team stay confident.
With the India clash looming, every bit of support counts and Pakistan will hope that this gesture inspires the players to deliver a strong performance.
