He was expected to return for the West Indies Tests starting October 2, but his recovery has taken longer than planned.

With him sidelined, Dhruv Jurel was brought in as his replacement, while Ravindra Jadeja has been serving as vice-captain. Pant, meanwhile, has been working on his rehab at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

Chief selector Ajit Agarkar recently confirmed that the team is hopeful of Pant being fit for the South Africa Test series in November.

This also means he will not feature in the white-ball series against Australia starting October 19.

Pant remains a crucial part of India’s long-term plans, and the management is in no hurry to rush him back. For now, his focus is on full recovery before making a proper comeback.
