Rinku Singh to bowl in Asia Cup 2025? India star eyes all-rounder role - 'Big plus for team' image

In an exclusive chat with Times of India, Rinku admitted that he is ready to roll his arm for the team if given the chances. He feels this could make him a more valuable option in the squad.

What did Rinku Singh say about bowling in Asia Cup 2025?

Rinku explained that modern cricket demands flexibility from every player. Teams expect batters to chip in with the ball, and bowlers to step up with the bat when required.

He said that if a batter gets a chance to bowl and manages to pick up a wicket or two, it can completely shift the game.

"Nowadays, every player is expected to contribute with both bat and ball. What else you can offer the team apart from your main skill is very important. If you are a batter and the captain gives you the ball and you manage to take a couple of wickets, there’s nothing better than that," Rinku told Times of India.

He added that selectors also notice such contributions, which always works in the team’s favour. He stressed that even if bowling is not his primary job, he will be ready to step up whenever his captain feels the need.

"It helps you and the team as well. If needed, I can bowl and pick up wickets too. Even selectors look at whether a player can contribute in both departments, so it definitely adds value. There’s no harm in it -- it’s always for the team’s good. As a batter, if the captain hands me the ball in a particular situation and I take wickets, it’s a big plus for the team," he added.

While his batting remains the main reason for his place in the team, Rinku offering a few overs could be handy in certain conditions. And in a tournament as crucial as the Asia Cup, even two overs from a part-timer can be crucial.
