Saim Ayub’s nightmare run with the bat continued in the Asia Cup 2025. Against the UAE, the left-hander walked in with pressure already building after back-to-back failures.

But instead of breaking the streak, he made it worse and dismissed for yet another duck. This was his third straight match without scoring.

He now finds his name alongside Mohammad Hafeez in Pakistan’s unwanted list of players with most consecutive ducks in T20 internationals.

Saim Ayub equal Mohammad Hafeez’s record of ducks

Ayub started this Asia Cup with high hopes, but the runs never came. He first fell for a duck against Oman, then again against India, and now a two-ball duck versus UAE has put him under even more pressure.

That makes three games in a row where he couldn’t open his account. By doing so, Ayub has joined Mohammad Hafeez, who in 2012 had a similar streak of three straight ducks.

Hafeez’s run came against England and Sri Lanka in back-to-back T20Is. Another Pakistan batter, Abdullah Shafique, went even worse with four consecutive ducks between 2020 and 2023.

What does this mean for Saim Ayub’s T20I career?

Once seen as the natural replacement for Fakhar Zaman at the top, Ayub’s career graph has not gone as many had imagined.

Before the UAE clash, he had featured in 43 T20 internationals, scoring 816 runs at a strike rate of 136.

Yet, with only four half-centuries in all those matches, his inconsistency has raised serious doubts about his future in the side.

A string of low scores in a high-profile event like the Asia Cup has put his spot under threat. Fans are already questioning whether Pakistan can continue with him as opener.
