Mitchell Santner returns as New Zealand's T20I captain for England tour 2025
Regular captain Mitchell Santner will lead the side, bringing both leadership and spin options to the line-up. Head coach Rob Walter confirmed Santner's return, while also explaining the decision to leave out Williamson.
"Kane had to overcome a minor medical issue in the past month, and we agreed he needs some more time to get himself physically ready to return. He is obviously a world-class player, and we are hoping these two weeks will ensure he is ready for the ODIs against England and the following tour by West Indies," Walter said.
Other players sidelined due to injuries include Ben Sears, Finn Allen, Adam Milne, Will O’Rourke, Glenn Phillips, and Lockie Ferguson. Meanwhile, Rachin Ravindra rejoins the squad after recovering from a facial injury.
