Since the inception of the World Test Championship in 2019, the baton of India's batting lineup has been passed on from the likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to the new generation superstars Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

The youngsters have grown in stature since their debuts, scoring runs across the globe. As the Indian team transitions after the retirements of legends, captain Gill has assumed responsibility in style.

Carrying on with his great form after a successful England tour, Gill scored another century at home against the West Indies and surpassed the former skipper Rohit Sharma to become the Indian with the most WTC hundreds in Delhi.

Most centuries by Indian batters in the World Test Championship history

Leading from the front, Gill scored a fifty in the series opener in Ahmedabad, but missed out on a hundred. However, in the second Test, the Indian skipper took off from where he left and did not miss the opportunity to reach the three-figure mark, scoring 129*(196) with the help of 16 fours and two sixes.

With the ton in Ahmedabad, Gill became the Indian with the most centuries in the WTC history, surpassing Rohit.
