Shubman Gill had a dream outing in the recently concluded India vs West Indies Test series. India clean sweeped the visitors 2-0, that marked Gill's first trophy as captain.
Before that, he captained in Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, where India held England to a 2-2 draw in his maiden Test series as the Indian cricket team captain.
Gill accepted the captaincy role, following the retirement of former skipper Rohit Sharma, just a month before the tour of England started. Sharma was followed by another Indian cricket stalwart, Virat Kohli, who also brought down the curtains on his illustrious Test career.
Thus, in the absence of senior stars, Gill was entrusted with the responsibility of leading a young Indian side on a very difficult away tour in England.

His stellar outing in England and was duly recognised by the International Cricket Council, who awarded the ICC Player of the Month (July) prize to the Indian skipper.
That was the fourth time in history that Gill was handed the ICC POTM award, which is also the most an Indian player has received.
Recently, Abhishek Sharma has been named the ICC POTM for September 2025, capping off a stellar run in India's Asia Cup win. The 25-year-old left-hander outperformed Zimbabwe's Brian Bennett and teammate Kuldeep Yadav to win the award.
Abhishek was the tournament's top scorer with 314 runs in seven matches at a strike rate of 200, earning him the Player of the Series title. His Asia Cup form also pushed him to a record 931 T20I rating points - the highest ever in ICC rankings, as he continues to shine as India's No. 1 T20I batter.
