Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar holds the record for the most runs in ODI cricket. He has scored 18,426 runs in 463 matches. Following him is Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara, who has 14,234 runs in 404 matches.
Virat Kohli, another Indian cricket icon, is steadily closing in on these records. On October 25, 2025, he surpassed Sangakkara and moved to the second spot in the rankings during the India vs Australia 3rd ODI at Sydney.
Kohli has already broken records, surpassing Ricky Ponting’s 13,704 runs and Sanath Jayasuriya’s 13,430 runs during the last ODI World Cup. Kohli also became the fourth batsman to score 27,000 runs in international cricket earlier this year.
