As India enters a relatively quiet stretch of the cricket calendar, the BCCI is reportedly working on a long-term workload plan for Jasprit Bumrah. The star pacer was rested for the deciding fifth Test against England.
He is now to be managed carefully to ensure his availability for important matches - particularly ICC tournaments. The move is part of a broader strategy to avoid overworking the injury-prone fast bowler and to prolong his career.

Jasprit Bumrah's Oval omission highlights India's long-term pace plans
Bumrah's absence in the series-deciding Test at The Oval sparked plenty of debate. The decision was not based on form or preference but part of a pre-planned approach involving the selectors, coaches and medical team.
Bumrah had already played three Tests on the tour and it was agreed beforehand that he would not be pushed beyond that limit. Chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar had made this clear while announcing the squad and head coach Gautam Gambhir reiterated it during the series.
How the BCCI plans to manage Jasprit Bumrah
According to the report by The Indian Express, BCCI is focused on keeping Bumrah fit for crucial tournaments - especially ICC events. He is not expected to play every bilateral series and his availability for the upcoming Asia Cup will also depend on medical advice.
With a history of back issues, the risk of aggravation remains high. The medical team is closely monitoring his fitness and all future participation will be decided jointly with input from both the coaching and medical staff.
Jasprit Bumrah wants to play all formats but smartly
Speaking to Sky Sports before the England series, Bumrah acknowledged the need to manage his body smartly as he gets older.
"I'm still not done in my mind. So I have to be a little smart about my workload. I still want to contribute in all three formats," he said.
The pacer is aware of the physical toll fast bowling takes and has also opted out of any Test leadership responsibilities to better focus on his fitness.
Interestingly, India won both Tests that Bumrah missed during the England series - thanks to strong performances from the rest of the pace attack. That success has further validated the decision to manage his workload - not just for fitness but also for team balance.
