The new World Test Championship cycle has just started, and Jasprit Bumrah has already given Indian fans something to cheer about.
On the opening day of the Test against West Indies in Ahmedabad, the fast bowler set a new record by becoming the quickest Indian to pick 50 Test wickets at home.
It was in the second session when Bumrah sent back Johann Layne for just one run. That wicket helped him touch a big milestone.

Bumrah reached the landmark in 1747 deliveries, which is the lowest for any Indian bowler on home soil. This makes him faster than some of the biggest names in Indian cricket history.

Where does Bumrah stand among India’s fastest pacers by innings?
Not just deliveries, Bumrah also achieved the milestone in 24 innings, making him the joint-fastest Indian pacer alongside Javagal Srinath. Both reached 50 Test wickets at home in the same number of innings.
The next on the chart is Kapil Dev, who needed 25 innings. Behind them are Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami, both requiring 27 innings.
How did Bumrah perform against West Indies in Ahmedabad Test?
India’s pacers were too hot to handle for the West Indies batting unit. Siraj started the destruction in the morning, picking up three quick wickets before lunch. The visitors were reduced to 90/5 at that stage.
Bumrah joined the act later and bowled two unplayable deliveries to remove Justin Greaves and Johann Layne.
He ended with figures of 3/42 in 14 overs. Siraj finished as the top wicket-taker with 4/40, while Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar chipped in as well.
By the end of the day, India were firmly on top, thanks to a ruthless bowling display. But the highlight remained Bumrah’s milestone, which now cements his place among the fastest Indian bowlers to 50 wickets at home.
