Ever since 2008, the IPL has been the pinnacle of T20 domestic cricket.

With its 16th season coming to a close on Monday, the Mumbai Indians were joined by Chennai Super Kings as the joint most successful team in history.

MS Dhoni's CSK took the chance to match their record when they beat the Gujarat Titans in the final of the 2023 edition.

The late Shane Warne led the Rajasthan Royals to the first-ever IPL championship way back in 2008, but the road hasn't always been as smooth for the Royals. RR were banned for the 2015/16 season for a betting scandal, along with the Chennai Super Kings.

The 2022 season was the first since 2011 to feature 10 sides, with the Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants being included into the competition.

Here we take a look at who has won the IPL title down the years, with the 2023 title now decided.

Who has won the most IPL titles?

Mumbai Indians were the most successful franchise in IPL history, with five titles, heading into the 2023 final. They went back-to-back in 2019 and 2020 to take their place at the summit, but they were knocked out of 2022 tournament at the league stage.

Chennai Super Kings are now the joint most successful side with five titles, after they beat Gujarat Titans by five wickets via DLS method on Monday in a rain-affected 2023 final

The 2022 title went to Gujarat Titans, who won their first title in their debut season in the league.
