As the excitement for the auction and the 19th edition of the tournament intensifies, The Sporting News takes a look at the retention deadline for the teams to submit the list of their retained players.

When is the last date for teams to submit retention list for IPL 2026 auction?

According to reports by Cricbuzz, November 15 has been set as the deadline for the sides to announce their retention list ahead of the auction. By then, the franchises will have to submit the list of the players they want to retain and release.

Franchise officials have disclosed that the discussions with the BCCI are centered on those dates; however, a confirmation about the same is still pending.

When is the IPL 2026 mini auction date?

December 13-15 has emerged as the probable window for the auction of IPL 2026.

This year's IPL auction is expected to take place in India, unlike the last two years, when it was moved abroad - first to Dubai in 2023 and then to Saudi Arabia in 2024.

What are the changes expected for the teams ahead of the auction?

The IPL 2026 auction is going to be a mini-auction. While most of the sides are expected to retain the majority of their squads, some big changes could possibly take place in franchises such as the Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings, and Rajasthan Royals, who finished in the bottom half of the table.

Both RR and CSK struggled throughout the season, ending 9th and 10th on the points table, respectively, while KKR played slightly better cricket; they too faltered in certain areas and would be keen on drafting some big names.

For CSK, the biggest question that looms is the availability of their Thala MS Dhoni. Dhoni, who is currently 44, did not clarify his plans with the side after the conclusion of IPL 2025.

Rajasthan Royals could also face a major blow, as reports suggested that their skipper, Sanju Samson, has decided to leave the side after a long association.

While the retentions are unclear, fans can expect a lot of speculation about which players could be released in the next few months. Stay tuned to TSN for all the latest updates
