Asia Cup defending champions India are the favorites to win the title in the upcoming 2025 edition.

If fit, India will be led by Suryakumar Yadav, who will start the tournament against the hosts, the UAE, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on September 10.

In the 19-match tournament, they will also face arch-rivals Pakistan, followed by Oman, who are also a part of Group A, before potentially heading into the Super Four stage and the final.

The Sporting News takes a look at the expected date when India's squad announcement for the much-anticipated Asia Cup 2025 tournament.

When will India announce the squad for the Asia Cup 2025?

India's T20 squad for the Asia Cup 2025 is expected to be announced on today, August 19 in Mumbai. The original announcement was expected at 1:30 pm in Mumbai but it could now extend to beyond 3 pm.

Heavy rains in Mumbai disrupted flights; delaying the arrival of BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia and other selection committee members. With only Agarkar and Suryakumar currently in the city, the management will wait for their arrival.

It has recently been reported by Vimal Kumar that press conference will start at 2:45 pm.

India's new Test captain was said to be making his way into the T20I side as Yadav's deputy, following his great red-ball form; however, the TOI has reported that the batter is currently struggling to make the cut, considering a set opening pair of Sanju Samson and T20I number one batter Abhishek Sharma.

"Yes, the team for the Asia Cup will be picked on Aug 19 in Mumbai. The selection committee meeting will be followed by a press conference by chief selector, former pacer Ajit Agarkar," TOI quoted a BCCI source.

The same report also suggested that the captain, who is currently recovering from his sports hernia surgery in BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, is likely to fly to Mumbai to attend the selection meeting.

The tournament will begin on September 8, with a clash between Afghanistan and Hong Kong scheduled in Abu Dhabi.
