Defending champions India are set to begin their campaign against USA at the T20 World Cup 2026 in Mumbai on February 7, 2026. India and Sri Lanka are the joint hosts for the marquee ICC event, which will run from February 7-March 8, 2026.
In 2024, India defeated South Africa in the T20 World Cup final to end their 11-year wait for ICC title. The triumph went some way in healing the heartbreak of the 2023 ODI World Cup, when India had stumbled on the final hurdle, against Australia, on home soil.

What is the format of T20 World Cup 2026?
Twenty teams will compete for the crown at the 2026 T20 World Cup. While hosts India and Sri Lanka qualified as the tournament hosts, seven highest-placed sides from the previous World Cup secured their place for 2026. Ireland, New Zealand and Pakistan got through with their T20I world ranking.
The 2026 World Cup will mark tournament debut for football giants Italy, who, along with Netherlands, made the cut through the European qualifiers. Canada, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Oman, Nepal, and the UAE also took the regional qualifier route.
The 20 teams have been divided into four groups of five. After a round-robin stage, the top two teams from each team will advance to the Super 8s.
