India to win Test series against England? Former English spinner backs Shubman Gill and Co. to clinch historic series image

As India gear up for a new era in Test cricket without legends like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin, not many are placing their bets on them winning a series in England. But former England spinner Monty Panesar thinks otherwise.

With the five-match Test series starting June 20 at Headingley, Panesar has boldly picked India as favourites amid their transition phase. Under new captain Shubman Gill and head coach Gautam Gambhir, this young Indian squad is entering unfamiliar territory.

Panesar believes they have what it takes to outplay England in their own backyard.

What did Monty Panesar predict for India's upcoming series against England?

Speaking to ANI, Panesar said that India’s experience in County cricket, combined with the possibility of flatter pitcher,s gives them an edge. He predicted a 2-0 win for India and said that the nature of the pitches will play a crucial role.

"Well, I think India has an advantage because they have players who have played County Cricket. I think India are favourites to win and I think they will probably win 2-0," Monty Panesar to ANI.

However, Panesar added a condition. If England prepare green, seaming tracks, the balance could tilt in the hosts' favour.

"If there are green pitches, I think England are favourites. But if there are flat pitches, I think India has got a chance of winning," he added.
