England’s playing XI in IND vs ENG 5th Test at the Oval

In a big blow for the home side, captain Ben Stokes has been ruled out of the series-deciding Oval Test. Ollie Pope has been named as the stand-in captain.

England have made four changes to their playing XI; Jofra Archer, Ben Stokes, Brydon Carse, and Liam Dawson have been excluded for the fifth Test.

Instead, Josh Tongue, Jamie Overton, Gus Atkinson and Jacob Bethell have been added in their place.

Why is Ben Stokes not playing India vs England 5th Test at the Oval?

Stokes has been ruled of the Oval Test against India due to a right-shoulder injury as reported by ESPN Cricinfo. 

Speaking at a press conference, the England captain expressed his disappointment and noted a "decent tear in the muscles." He added that the medical team felt the risk of worsening it was too high if he played.

India’s playing XI in IND vs ENG 5th Test at Manchester

India had already confirmed that Rishabh Pant was set to miss the fifth Test due to his foot injury in the Old Trafford Test. Dhruv Jurel is expected to take over the wicket-keeping duties.

Jasprit Bumrah, on the other hand has been rested for the final Test at the Oval. The management have stuck to their original plan of playing the star pacer in just three out of the five matches.

Karun Nair is back. He is listed to bat at No. 5 in this match. Akash Deep and Prasidh Krishna replaced Jasprit Bumrah and Anshul Kamboj as pacers in the XI.

Kuldeep Yadav ends the five-match tour on the bench and has not featured in a single game in this series.
