The former India skipper and one of India's most prolific openers, Rohit Sharma, ended the Australia tour on a high as he smashed his 33rd ODI ton in the third ODI against the Aussies in Sydney.

India defeated the host by 9 wickets in a one-sided affair that witnessed a RO-KO special as the veteran batters remained unbeaten, taking India over the line in a chase of 237.

What records did Rohit Sharma break in the 3rd ODI against Australia at Sydney?

Rohit returned to international cricket after nearly eight months and staged a magnificent comeback. He won the 'Player of the series' award for his magnificent 202 runs in his three outings on the Australia tour.

The opener smashed 121 unbeaten runs in Sydney and helped India register a victory after their consecutive losses in Perth and Adelaide. Throughout the game, Rohit also broke several records. Let's take a detailed look at the records broken by Rohit on his tour to Australia.

1. Sixth Indian with 100-plus catches as a fielder in ODIs

Rohit became the sixth Indian to take 100+ catches in the ODI format, as he grabbed the catches of Mitchell Owen and Nathan Ellis in the Third ODI at Sydney. 

2. Joint second-most ODI hundreds against an opposition

The Indian opener bagged his ninth hundred against Australia, which is the joint second-most against any opposition. Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar also have nine centuries against the West Indies and Australia, respectively

3. Most ODI hundreds as a visiting batter in Australia

The century in Sydney was Rohit's fifth ton down under, with which he became the visiting player with the most centuries in Australia. 

4. Most ODI runs for an Indian in Australia

With his unbeaten 121, Rohit surpassed Sachin Tendulkar in the tally as the highest run scorer for India on Australian soil. The Indian opener has piled up 1530 ODI runs at an average of 56.66 down under.

Tendulkar previously held the record with 1491 ODI runs.

5. The highest run-getter as an opener for India in International cricket 

With 15787 runs as an opener in International cricket, Rohit surpassed Virender Sehwag to become the highest run scorer as an opener for India across formats. 

6. Oldest Indian cricketer to win the 'Player of the series award'

Rohit also broke MS Dhoni's record of being the oldest Indian cricketer to win the ‘Player of the Series’ Award at 38 years, 178 days on Saturday. Dhoni bagged the award when India last toured down under for an ODI series at the age of 37 years, 194 days.
