The Indian women's cricket team rewrote history on Sunday as they beat South Africa by 52 runs in the final to lift their maiden ICC Women's World Cup title. Harmanpreet Kaur and her side went full throttle at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai to bring the cup home.

Now, the BCCI is reportedly planning a massive financial reward for the team if they go all the way.

The proposed prize, insiders suggest, could match the amount given to the men's team after their T20 World Cup win last year.

How much will Women's World Cup 2025 winning Indian players get as cash prize?

According to a PTI report, the BCCI is considering awarding the women's team a cash prize of ₹125 crore if they lift the trophy on Sunday. This would mirror the reward handed to Rohit Sharma's men's team after their 2024 T20 World Cup win against South Africa.

"The BCCI supports equal pay for men and women, and if our girls win the World Cup, the reward won't be any less than what the men received," a BCCI source told PTI.

The move aligns with the equal-pay framework advocated by former BCCI secretary and current ICC chairman Jay Shah, who has been vocal about parity in rewards and match fees. If the ₹125 crore proposal goes through, the payout per player could reach record levels.

In 2017, when India finished runners-up to England, each player received ₹50 lakh, while the support staff were also handsomely rewarded. A World Cup win this time could see players earning nearly 10 times more, marking a milestone moment for women's cricket in India.

The final in Navi Mumbai offers India not just a shot at their maiden World Cup title, but also a statement on equality and recognition in the sport.
