A simple line labelling Pakistan the “underdog” was enough to set fans buzzing and spark endless online chatter.

What did Iceland Cricket post that went viral?

Just hours before the game in Dubai, Iceland Cricket’s official X account shared a playful message.

They wrote that they always support the underdog, which is why they were “backing Pakistan” against Oman.

Later, Pakistan defeated Oman by 93 runs in their Asia Cup clash at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Friday. Even though Pakistan only managed 160 runs, their bowlers ensured it was more than enough.

Pakistan set the tone with the bat, but their innings lacked fluency. Mohammad Haris was the standout performer, scoring 66 off 43 balls.

His knock had seven boundaries and three sixes, and though he struggled early on, he found rhythm midway, reaching a fifty in 32 balls.

However, after his dismissal, Pakistan lost quick wickets. Salman Ali Agha also fell cheaply, and the innings slowed down. Some late runs from Fakhar Zaman and Mohammad Nawaz pushed Pakistan to a modest 160.

Oman’s chase started with some fight as they reached 40 for two in the PowerPlay, but things collapsed soon after. By the halfway mark, Oman was 49 for six.

Pakistan’s spinners were the real stars- Saim Ayub, Abrar Ahmed, Nawaz and Sufiyan Muqeem all chipped in, troubling every Omani batter. Shaheen and Faheem Ashraf then finished things off, bundling Oman out for just 67.

Despite their strong bowling effort earlier, Oman’s batting fell apart completely, handing Pakistan a big win.
