India ended the ODI series in Australia on a happy note as they finally registered a win and avoided a whitewash against the world champions.
Having lost the previous two matches and the series, India played for pride in Sydney as they could not afford to lose all three games of the series.

And that is when, two of India's cricketers ever, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli delivered with their bats. While Sharma scored a brilliant century, Virat Kohli finally got off the mark in the series and remained not out at 74 as the Men in Blue chased down a humble total of 236 runs.
While there was relief in the Indian camp after the victory in Sydney, there was also some concern over Shreyas Iyer's injury that limited his time on the ground in the third ODI.

What happened to Shreyas Iyer?
The injury happened during the 34th over of the Australian innings, when India ODI vice-captain Iyer ran back from point to take a brilliant catch to dismiss Alex Carey. While the fielding effort was phenomenal, Iyer was visibly in discomfort and was immediately rushed back to the pavilion.
BCCI later released a statement to provide an update on Iyer's condition, which confirmed that the India star sustained a laceration injury to the spleen.
What is Spleen laceration and how serious is Shreyas Iyer's injury?
A Spleen is a vascular organ and its bleeding can result in a life-threatening condition for the patient. While in case of lower-grade lacerations, treatment can be done without surgery, higher-grade lacerations could sometimes need serious attention in the Intensive Care Unit.
Reports emerged in the morning that Iyer was taken to the ICU due to internal bleeding, however, it was later claimed that he had been taken out of the ICU and was being kept under monitor as he is partially out of danger now.
BCCI's doctor is present at the hospital and is keeping Iyer under observation, while some reports have claimed that the cricketer's parents have flown off to Sydney to be with him.

When will Shreyas Iyer recover?
For Low-moderate grade spleen lacerations, a patient can take 6 to 12 weeks to recover, but High-grade injuries may take 3 to 6 months to fully recover.
Following the recovery, it might take another couple of months for Iyer to regain full match fitness and return to a cricket field.
