How India win without compromising results: Russel Arnold dissects the model and Sri Lanka’s path image

India are in the middle of a transition, but their winning habit has not changed. With big names like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma stepping away from T20Is, many expected a dip.

Instead, India have only grown stronger, showing that they can rotate players, try new combinations and still keep the results coming.

Former Sri Lanka cricketer Russel Arnold has now shared his thoughts on how this model works and what it means for Sri Lanka, who are struggling with their own rebuilding phase.

Russel Arnold explains why India’s winning formula works in Asia Cup 2025

Arnold believes India have found a way to stay on top even without their superstars.

He explained that the team’s strength lies in its depth, which allows them to mix and match without hurting the outcome.

“They are able to mix and match and still not compromise their results. If you look at how India are performing across formats, maybe we are so used to certain names really dominate the world on and off the field, it's hard to look beyond. But the bottom line is, the results are there,” Arnold told Sportskeeda.

India’s record supports his words. After their T20 World Cup win in 2024, they entered Asia Cup 2025 having won 16 of their last 20 matches.

Even with new faces in charge, the Men in Blue continue to look like the team to beat.

How are Sri Lanka dealing with their own struggles?

While India’s transition has been smooth, Sri Lanka’s has been dull. They have lost 19 games since 2022 and won only 23. Their win percentage has also fallen in T20Is and its lower than even Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

The resignation of Chris Silverwood added to the challenges and left Sri Lanka searching for consistency. This is where the contrast between India and Sri Lanka becomes clear.
