Has Pakistan ever been eliminated from Asia Cup group stage? PAK's finishes in Asia Cup listed image

For years, Pakistan has been one of the stronger sides in the Asia Cup. Even though they have not always lifted the trophy, they have managed to push through the early rounds and keep themselves in the mix.

Fans often ask if Pakistan has ever failed at the very first hurdle- the group stage.

With Asia Cup 2025 currently on in the UAE, and Pakistan already having one win and one loss in their group, this question has again come up.

Has Pakistan ever gone out in the group stage of Asia Cup?

The short answer is no. Pakistan has never been knocked out directly from the group stage in any edition of the Asia Cup they have played.

In earlier years, when the tournament used round-robin formats, they usually managed to finish high enough to stay alive. In the modern versions, with Super Fours or Super Six stages, Pakistan has always gone past the groups.

What are Pakistan’s top Asia Cup highlights?

Pakistan has lifted the Asia Cup trophy twice- in 2000 when they beat Sri Lanka, and in 2012 when they edged past Bangladesh in a close final.

They have also been runners-up several times, including 1986, 2014, 2016 (T20), and 2022 (T20). Even when they did not reach the finals, they often finished third in the Super Four stages.

Their win in 2012 remains special, as it came against a spirited Bangladesh team in Dhaka.
