India's star all-rounder Hardik Pandya missed out on the Australia tour as he has not been picked in the ODI or T20I squad that will travel down under this month.

BCCI announced squads for both formats on Saturday, October 4, as Shubman Gill has been named the ODI captain, although Rohit Sharma made it to the team. Virat Kohli has also been included in the ODI squad.

Gill started off his captaincy career on a strong note, levelling the Test series in England, where he amassed more than 750 runs in 10 innings. With the ODI World Cup in just 2 years, the young man will have a crucial role to play in preparing the side for the crucial event.

While most of the selections were on expected lines, India's red-ball vice-captain Ravindra Jadeja has been dropped from the ODI squad.

Jadeja played a key role in the Champions Trophy victory earlier this year, but has been left out of the squad due to more pace-friendly conditions. India opted not to go with two left-arm spinners, preferring Axar Patel over him for the series. Ace fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has also been left out of the ODI team but has been included in the T20I side.

Pandya sustained an injury in the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup 2025, which led to him missing the key final against Pakistan.

The all-rounder is still recovering from the knock and will join the CoE only week to work on his rehabilitation.

Speaking to reporters, BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar said: "Hardik Pandya is not fit for Australia. The injury that he picked up in the Asia Cup. In a week's time, he is supposed to be there at the CoE. We will get a better timeline of his return then."
