Cricket legend and former England opener Sir Geoffrey Boycott is widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen to ever grace Test cricket. 

He was the first England batter to score over 8000 Test runs and is currently ranked seventh in the all-time highest English run scorers in the longest format.

Boycott has scored 8114 runs in 108 matches at an average of 47.72 and 22 international centuries to his name. His career spanned from 1964 to 1982.

After quitting cricket, Boycott made a name for himself in the world of commentary and ended up becoming an iconic voice in the commentary box.

The 84-year-old, who is himself one of the finest openers of all time, was asked to name the top five opening batters according to his opinion.

While speaking on The Overlap Cricket podcast, Boycott started his list by naming England openerJack Hobbs, followed by William Gilbert Grace or W.G. Grace, widely known as the father of cricket.

Third in his list was Len Hutton, while India legend Sunil Gavaskar also made it to Boycott's favourite openers' list. He ended it by naming Australia's Arthur Morris.

Geoffrey Boycott names Ravindra Jadeja as his favourite current player

When asked to pick his favourite cricketer from the current lot of players, Boycott revealed that he loves to watch India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja play.

The Englishman said: "I like (Ravindra) Jadeja. I have never met him. He is always in the game. Bowls left-arm spin, his feeling is fantastic. I've always thought that through your performance, can you lift the others? And he fields so brilliantly, always has energy, and he can bat. Not just Test, he does well in T20 as well."
