"Will create internal scrutiny" - Former India coach fires warning at Suryakumar Yadav over poor form ahead of Australia T20I series image

Suryakumar Yadav’s recent form has sparked concern among fans and experts alike as India gear up for their T20I series against Australia.

Former India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar has voiced his thoughts on the issue and said that the star batter’s dip in form will surely invite internal discussions within the team. However, Nayar also believes that Australian conditions might help Suryakumar find his rhythm again.

The Indian T20I skipper has struggled to score big runs lately and could only manage 72 runs in seven Asia Cup matches, with a top score of 47* against Pakistan.

Is Suryakumar Yadav’s form a growing concern for Team India?

Since Suryakumar took charge as India’s T20I captain in mid-2024, his form with the bat hasn’t been the same.

In the last 15 games, he has managed only 330 runs and has crossed fifty just twice. This is a stark contrast to his earlier dominance when he was the world’s top-ranked T20I batter.

Abhishek Nayar pointed out that such a phase can invite self-doubt and team-level scrutiny.

"This Australian tour presents an interesting scenario. While team victories often overshadow individual performances, any downturn in results will raise questions.

"As India’s T20I captain and someone who’s been the number one-ranked batter in T20Is for a long period of time, Suryakumar’s extended run without significant scores at No. 3 will create internal scrutiny," Nayar said while speaking on JioHotstar.

However, Nayar also backed the Mumbai batter to bounce back, saying that the pace and bounce of Australian pitches could suit his natural game.

"We know his calibre and impact potential, and Australian conditions with their bounce and pace should benefit his batting style. Ultimately, the biggest questions will come from within, as this current output does not reflect his true capabilities," he added.

All eyes will be on Suryakumar Yadav as India begin their campaign against Australia on 29th October. Known for his explosive shots and fearless mindset, he will be looking to rediscover that same flow that once made him the most dangerous batter in T20 cricket.
