Explained: Why BCCI is facing backlash over Ayush Badoni's Team India photoshoot backdrop image

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been slammed by fans over the stained backdrop that destroyed Ayush Badoni's photoshoot with the India jersey.

The 26-year-old cricketer was seen posing standing in front of a paan-stained wall, and eagle-eyed fans were quick to point out the flaw.

Badoni was named as a replacement for all-rounder Washington Sundar, who has been sidelined during the ongoing New Zealand series with a rib injury.

However, the player did not get to feature in the second ODI as Nitish Reddy replaced Sundar in the starting XI.

Fans on social media were quick to slam the BCCI after images of Badoni’s official India jersey photoshoot surfaced with a visibly paan-stained wall in the background. The oversight sparked criticism over presentation standards, especially for a player marking a proud national milestone.

Despite staying miles away from action, Badoni has grabbed headlines, albeit for the wrong reasons, and for no fault of his own.

India looked to clinch the series when they faced New Zealand in the 2nd ODI in Rajkot, carrying confidence from a strong showing in the opener.

With the top order settling in well and the middle order contributing at key moments, the hosts aimed for a more clinical performance, especially with the ball in the middle overs.

New Zealand, however, bounced back strongly in Rajkot after the setback in Vadodara as they beat the hosts by 7 wickets and drew level in the series courtesy of a brilliant knock from Daryl Mitchell of 131 runs.
