Ex-RCB opener set to play Australia vs India 1st ODI after Josh Inglis and Adam Zampa ruled out image

Australia have been forced into late changes ahead of the first ODI against India in Perth, with wicket-keeper Josh Inglis ruled out due to injury and leg-spinner Adam Zampa unavailable for family reasons.

The double withdrawal has opened the door for former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) opener Josh Philippe to make a return to international cricket.

Josh Philippe returns as Aussie wicket-keeper for 1st ODI against India

With Inglis still recovering from a calf strain and Alex Carey released to play Sheffield Shield cricket for South Australia, Philippe has been called up to take the gloves for Sunday's match.

Inglis picked up the injury during Western Australia's training session on September 19 and is looking to return for the third ODI in Sydney on October 25. This will be Philippe's first ODI appearance since Australia's 2021 tour of the West Indies.

The 28-year-old has been in strong touch lately - he scored an unbeaten 123 and 50 during Australia A's recent tour of India, followed by 85 in a one-dayer against Sri Lanka A in July.

Adam Zampa unavailable, Matthew Kuhnemann joins ODI squad

With Zampa missing the opener, left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann has rejoined the squad and could play his first ODI since 2022. He recently took 2 for 51 in a domestic one-dayer for Tasmania and has been part of Australia's white-ball squads since the Caribbean T20 series in July.

Zampa is expected to return in time for the second ODI in Adelaide on October 23, where ticket sales are already nearing a full house. The first ODI between Australia and India begins on October 19, Sunday at Perth Stadium.
