Taking to X, Steyn shared a message that resonated with fans from both nations.

"It's no secret my second love in cricket is Zimbabwe. Obviously I want the Proteas to win, but I feel a good competitive Zimbabwe, West Indies etc is so good for world cricket. So just for a moment, GO ZIM! But also, to the team, PROTEAS!" he wrote on X.

His message struck a balance between national pride and broader hope for the health of international cricket. Steyn has long been vocal about the importance of strengthening the game outside the top few nations and his comment reflects that spirit.

South Africa's youthful line-up showed promise on Day 1. After having an early collapse at 55/4, Lhuan-dre Pretorius scored a superb 153 on debut.
