After two consecutive ducks in the first two matches, the star batter bounced back in the final ODI, remaining unbeaten on 74 to guide India to a comfortable nine-wicket win, supported by Rohit Sharma's century.

While the on-field performance grabbed headlines, former Australian wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist has now shed light on an alleged conversation he had with Kohli, revealing the Indian captain's reflective thoughts on modern cricket.

Virat Kohli on the changing nature of cricket

Gilchrist revealed that Kohli expressed a sense of detachment from how the sport operates today.

"I had a good chat with him about the world of social media and the commercial aspects of the game. And he was very philosophical about it and understanding that that is indeed the case nowadays. He said it doesn't seem to feel sort of organic, the game, now," said Gilchrist.

The Indian batter acknowledged that while he has fully benefited from cricket's commercial ecosystem, the sport has shifted focus.

"It's not just about what happens in the middle. Now it's about the opportunity to project the game, project your own image, your team's image," Kohli reportedly told Gilchrist.

The social media influence on modern cricket

With over 274 million followers on Instagram, Kohli wields enormous influence. Gilchrist said that this reach allows the player to connect with fans worldwide, shaping perceptions far beyond the boundary ropes.

Kohli's reflections underline the pressures and responsibilities modern cricketers face, balancing performance with brand image and engagement.
