India's young batting sensation, Yashasvi Jaiswal, has weighed in on his ambition to take up the leadership role for the country and also for his IPL side in the upcoming years.

Jaiswal has been one of India's brightest young stars, and would arguably have been a regular starter across formats if he played for another country.

Unfortunately, with the abundance of top-order talent in India, he has been pushed down the pecking order and is a mainstay only in the Test format.

Yashasvi Jaiswal poses as Shubman Gill's challenger for India captaincy?

In a recent Podcast with Raj Shamani, the 23-year-old opener highlighted that his focus is currently on upgrading his skills and fitness. He also remarked on his desire to take up the leadership role whenever the opportunity arises.

Jaiswal has been a regular feature on the Test side, but has played just one ODI for India. He made his ODI debut against England earlier this year, just before the Champions Trophy, but was soon left out of the side after just one game.

"Currently, I am focusing a lot on my fitness. I am learning more about my body as I feel that with time, I need to be fitter and need to work more on my skills," Jaiswal said. "Every day, I have to work on myself to evolve myself into a leader. One day, I want to be a captain."

The young star is not currently part of his side's leadership group. However, he is one of the senior players at the Rajasthan Royals, which can eventually help him fulfill his desire.

With Abhishek Sharma's prolific run in the shortest format, Jaiswal has failed to make the T20I side. He has been picked for the upcoming ODI series against Australia; however, with Rohit and Gill in the squad, he is unlikely to get a game.

He would now be in action in the second Test against the West Indies, which is set to be played from October 10 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. He scored 36 runs before getting dismissed in the First game in Ahmedabad
