The Buchi Babu Trophy 2025, organised by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA), will begin on Monday, August 18.
The famous invitational red-ball tournament is regarded as a warm-up event for Indian domestic teams ahead of the Ranji Trophy season.
The competition, which returned in 2023 after six years, is one of India’s oldest cricket events and will once again see top teams from across the country fighting for silverware.

How many teams will play in the Buchi Babu Trophy 2025?
A total of 16 teams will take part this year, along with two special sides picked by TNCA- President’s XI and TNCA XI.
Group A: TNCA President’s XI, Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra
Group B: Railways, Jammu & Kashmir, Baroda, Odisha
Group C: TNCA XI, Mumbai, Haryana, Bengal
Group D: Hyderabad, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand

What is the format of the Buchi Babu Trophy 2025?
Every team in the group will face the other three teams one time each. The league stage will have three-day games, with each side batting for 90 overs in the first innings and 45 overs in the second innings to ensure results.
From the semi-finals onwards, matches will be four-day fixtures, with each team batting 90 overs per innings.
The winners of the tournament will get a prize of ₹3 lakh and the runners-up will receive ₹2 lakh.
When will the Buchi Babu Trophy 2025 matches be played?
The tournament starts on August 18, 2025, and will run across multiple venues in Chennai. Match timings are set for 9:30 AM IST on each day of play.
