India ended the ODI series in Australia on a happy note as they finally registered a win and avoided a whitewash against the world champions, but they were dealt a serious injury blow as Shreyas Iyer picked up a knock while fielding.

The injury happened during the 34th over of the Australian innings, when India ODI vice-captain Iyer ran back from point to take a brilliant catch to dismiss Alex Carey. While the fielding effort was phenomenal, Iyer was visibly in discomfort and was immediately rushed back to the pavilion.

BCCI later released a statement to provide an update on Iyer's condition, which confirmed that the India star sustained a laceration injury to the spleen.

On Monday, reports emerged that Iyer was taken to the ICU due to internal bleeding, although it was later claimed that he had been taken out of the ICU and was being kept under monitor as he is partially out of danger now.

BCCI's doctor is present at the hospital and is keeping Iyer under observation, while some reports have claimed that the cricketer's parents have flown off to Sydney to be with him.
