The India vs Pakistan Asia Cup face-off was plagued with controversy amid all the calls from fans to boycott the fixture after the Pahalgam terrorist attack earlier this year.

While the Indian government and the BCCI decided to go ahead with the fixture as scheduled, the players and management showed a gesture in solidarity towards the victims of the attack.

During the toss, Suryakumar Yadav refused a handshake withPakistan captain Salman Agha, catching the attention of fans on the internet. The Indian team then resused to shake hands with the Pakistan players after the match.

Following the on-field incidents, former Pakistan player Basit Ali expressed his displeasure and called the Indian team's actions against the spirit of the game.

While reviewing the Group A match between the two nations, Basit Ali, who has played 50 ODIs and 19 Tests for Pakistan, felt it was disrespectful for India not to shake hands with the opposition.

He felt the sport's fans and followers worldwide wouldn't take it well, and it would not leave a good impression. He also questioned how ICC chairman Jay Shah would react if it happened at an ICC event.

"This is the Asia Cup -- what does the ICC chief do when it happens in an ICC event because he is an Indian? Will you become a hero by not shaking hands? No," said Basit Ali.

"Whoever understands and writes about cricket will never appreciate this. Whether I am Pakistani or not, even people from England and Australia wouldn't appreciate this," he added.

While captains' handshakes and post-match greetings between the teams are generally considered customary, it is not a rule that both should be done as a norm.

Up next, Pakistan will face the UAE on September 17, where they will have another shot at sealing their Super Four spot. On the other hand, India will face Oman in their final Group A game after qualifying for the next round.
