Speculation over Virat Kohli's potential retirement took over social media after his brief wave to the Adelaide crowd during India's second ODI against Australia.
The 36-year-old, dismissed for a duck for the second consecutive time, raised his glove as he walked off - a gesture some interpreted as a farewell.

However, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has rubbished those rumours, assuring fans that Kohli's gesture was merely one of appreciation and that the star batter will take the field in Sydney for the series finale.
Gavaskar dismisses Kohli retirement speculation
Speaking to Sports Tak, Gavaskar called the retirement talk "unnecessary drama," pointing out that a player of Kohli's stature is bound to have off days.
The veteran commentator highlighted Kohli's staggering record - over 14,000 ODI runs and 52 centuries as proof that temporary slumps don't define great players.
"He is allowed a couple of failures. Don't read too much into what's happened - there is plenty of cricket left in him. Maybe Sydney will see a big innings from him," Gavaskar said.
The former opener also clarified that Kohli's wave was simply an acknowledgment of the fans' respect, not a farewell signal. Gavaskar also noted that most of the applause at Adelaide came from Australian fans, a testament to Kohli's global stature.
"The majority of the crowd were Australians, recognising what he has done for the game. Even Aussies were disappointed not to see a big score from him," he explained.
He further added that Kohli is not the type to walk away after back-to-back ducks.
"Do you really think he will retire after 0, 0? Absolutely not. He will want to finish on a high. I believe the 2027 World Cup will be his moment - maybe even with Rohit Sharma alongside," he added
Kohli set for Sydney redemption
With the series already sealed 2-0 in Australia's favour, the spotlight in Sydney will be on Kohli as he looks to silence doubts with the bat. Gavaskar's faith in the former skipper echoes what many fans still believe: Kohli's story is far from over.
